Internet Service Providers have applied for over $5 million from Wisconsin’s Fiscal Year 2022 Broadband Expansion Program to provide service to underserved areas in Sheboygan County.
In all, $495 million in grants statewide were requested in 194 applications announced last week by the Public Service Commission. The Sheboygan County applications will be competing to receive part of around $100 million that is expected to be awarded this summer once the PSC has evaluated the applications.
All three applications in Sheboygan County propose to connect customers to fiber delivery lines. Those projects intend to serve some 79 locations in rural Elkhart Lake and Kiel, over 1,200 locations along Highway 57 from Random Lake to the Town of Rhine, and nearly 1,000 locations extending from the towns of Herman and Meeme in Sheboygan County, to nearby areas in Manitowoc County.
