With weather patterns being what they are in this part of the US, it only takes a few months of unusual weather to either parch, or soak the soil in drought or flood. Fortunately it doesn’t look like either is likely to occur for the time being.
NOAA, or the National Weather Service, says that Sheboygan County is currently not in drought, and it’s not expected to develop over the next month. And for the first time in months, no part of Sheboygan County is experiencing even abnormally dry conditions – the first indicator of possible drought. Still, April did come in about a third of an inch short on rainfall (2.95” vs 3.30”) according to records kept at the Sheboygan County Airport. At the same time, we did experience warmer-than-usual weather with the average high of 56.6 more than 4 degrees above normal, and with lows about 2 degrees above. Temperature extremes were just 2 days apart with a low of 23 recorded on April 25th, followed by last Saturday’s high of 79.
As for the monthly outlook for May, Sheboygan County will likely see above normal temperatures, and near normal rainfall.
