MILWAUKEE, WI (WHBL) – The Milwaukee Brewers took the rubber match in their series against the Tampa Bay Rays following a 7-1 win in the finale from American Family Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Willy Adames slugged a pair of homers and drove in four runs to lead the offense while Colin Rea gave up four hits over six innings with two walks and six strikeouts in a 99-pitch outing — his highest pitch count since July 25, 2016, when he was with San Diego.
Tampa managed just five hits total, left nine runners on base and were 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
Milwaukee remains first in the NL Central at 19-11.
The Brewers have Thursday off before heading to Wrigley Field for a three-game weekend series against the Chicago Cubs beginning Friday afternoon.
Meanwhile, several players have been punished by MLB for their roles in a benches-clearing brawl. The league announced Wednesday that Brewers starting pitcher Freddy Peralta was given a five-game suspension for intentionally throwing at Jose Siri in the sixth inning of Milwaukee’s win over Tampa on Tuesday. Abner Uribe got six games for fighting, while Brewers’ manager Pat Murphy and Siri got two games.
