Janet J. Bitter, age 90, passed away on January 9, 2022, surrounded by her loving family at
Sheboygan Senior Community Center where she was a resident for the past few years.
She was born in the Town of Mosel on May 16, 1931, to the late Ervin and Meta (Hetzel)
Woepse. On July 8, 1950, Janet was united in marriage to Melvin Bitter and together they had
four children whom they raised on the family farm. Melvin preceded her in death on December
18, 2017. Janet retired from Manning Lighting where she had been employed for over 30
years. She was also a housekeeper for many years for several different households. She was a
member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Howards Grove.
Janet enjoyed many hobbies, including cards and dominos, playing bingo, puzzles and polka
dances. Janet loved spending time with her family and friends.
Janet is survived by two children, Sue (Bob) Kober and David (fiancé Robin Edler) Bitter both of
Howards Grove; a daughter-in-law Coreen Bitter; grandchildren, Lisa (Brian) Wiercinski, Jason
Bitter, Tanya (Jason) Schnell, Jeremy (Jenny) Bitter, Brian (Tiffany) Bitter, and Brittnee (Tyler)
Truttschel; three step-grandchildren, Stephanie Kober, Robert II (Patience) Kober and Brian
(Felicia) Kober; 21 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law Myra
Luebke. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Along with her parents and husband Melvin of 67 years, Janet was preceded in death by two
children, Gary Bitter and Gene Bitter; brother Wayne (Mary Lou) Woepse and brothers and
sisters-in-law, Milton (LaVerne), Delbert (Evergene), Henry Luebke and Norman Bitter.
A Funeral Service for Janet will be held at NOON on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at St. Paul's
Evangelical Lutheran Church, 441 Millersville Ave. in Howards Grove. Family will greet visitors
on Friday, January 14, 2022, at Zimmer Westview Funeral and Cremation Care Center, W2132
Garton Road from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM and again on Saturday AT CHURCH from 10:30 AM
until the time of service at NOON. Janet’s service will be livestreamed and can be viewed from
www.zimmerfuneralhome.com on her obituary page. Janet will be laid to rest next to Melvin at
the St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Howards Grove.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Janet's name.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Sheboygan Senior Community for the care
given to Janet as well as Pastor Adam Bode for the many visits.
