Norman J. Knier, 94, of Sheboygan, passed away Monday morning, January 4, 2021 at Sheboygan Progressive Care Center where he had been residing.
Born September 18, 1926 in Sheboygan, Norman was a son of the late Anthony and Lydia Landwehr Knier. He attended Holy Name Catholic Grade School and graduated from Central High School in 1944. He went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater during WWII. At the age of 90, he and his son Michael participated in the Honor Flight to Washington, DC.
On August 13, 1949, he was united in marriage to Joan M. Federer at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. They were married for 61 years before Joan preceded him in death on March 30, 2011.
Norm was the president of the Sheboygan Acceptance Corporation for many years before his retirement in 1991. He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church where he belonged to the Men’s Society and helped out at the yearly church picnics. He was a life member of the Sheboygan Elks Lodge, #299, the Elks National Foundation and an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus, #722. He was also a member of the Wisconsin Consumer Finance Association. He enjoyed bowling, golfing and played baseball and softball for many years. He was also an avid Packers fan. In his later years, he particularly enjoyed fishing. But most of all, he enjoyed time spent with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Dr. Michael (Gail) Knier, Oshkosh, WI, Patricia (Larry) Leonhardt, Sheboygan, Julie (Timothy) Conrad, Appleton, WI; five grandchildren, Jeffrey (Dr. Carlene) Knier, Dr. Alyssa (Dr. Grant) O’Brien, Steven (Alexandra) Knier, Megan and David Leonhardt; seven great grandchildren, Rylan, Layne & Ashton O’Brien, Jackson & Avery Knier, and Porter & Zoey Knier; his sister, Margaret Voorhans, Kohler; sister-in-law, Germaine (Edward) Tesovnik, Sheboygan; 3 nieces, 1 nephew, other relatives and friends.
Besides his parents and wife, Joan, he was preceded in death by his infant brother, Robert Knier.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Norm at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, January 11, 2021 at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 21st & Geele Avenue. Father Norberto Sandoval will celebrate the Mass. Family and friends are welcome at the church on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. COVID-19 mandates and social distancing will be observed and masks are required. Entombment will take place in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his name.
The family would like to thank his CNA, Anna M. and the rest of the staff at Sheboygan Progressive Care Center for all of their loving care and support.
The Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service has been entrusted with Norman’s arrangements.
