David E. Kirk, age 70, of Sheboygan, died on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at Lawlis Family Hospice in Mequon. He was born in Appleton, WI on June 17, 1955, to the late Norman and Selma Ruege Kirk.
David graduated from Appleton High School before continuing his education at the University of Wisconsin–Platteville, where he earned his undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice cum laude. He later received a Master of Arts in Public Service, with honors, from Marquette University.
Throughout his life, David was deeply committed to both his family and a career of service. He began his law enforcement career with the City of Sheboygan Police Department in 1977. Over the next three decades, he earned the respect of colleagues and the community alike as he advanced through the ranks. In 2008, after eight years serving as Chief of Police, David retired, leaving behind a legacy of dedicated leadership and public service.
On October 11, 1980, David married the love of his life, Astrid Rincon. Together they shared 45 years of marriage, building a life centered on love, family, and faith. They were devoted parents and grandparents who found great joy in supporting and spending time with their children and grandchildren.
David was a faithful member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. He enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life, including fishing, boating, gardening, cooking, and traveling. While he was respected for his leadership and dedication to public service, he was equally loved for his quick wit, warm sense of humor, and ability to bring laughter to those around him. Above all, he treasured time spent with family, creating memories that will be cherished for generations to come.
David is lovingly remembered by his wife of 45 years, Astrid Kirk; his daughters, Sarah (Kenny) Flannery and Jacquelyne (Joe) Goldfine; and his six cherished grandchildren, Adriana, Parker, Isabella, Asher, Raegan, and Scarlett. He is also survived by his siblings, Brenda (Steve) Engel, Mike (Liisa) Kirk, and Jeff Kirk; sisters-in-law, Merel Kirk, Araminta Rincon, Melida Wagner, Dilia Lozano, Gloria (Rick) Brandt, Martha (Gary) Kolberg, and Carmenza (Jeff) Nelson; brothers-in-law, Jorge (Marilyn) Rincon, Vince (Amy) Rincon, and Balthazar Rincon; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Tom Kirk and Jim Kirk; his sisters-in-law, Linda Kirk and Luz Marina; and his brothers-in-law, Marco Rincon, Bob Wagner, Alberto Lozano, and Edgar and Amparo Rincon.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A funeral service for David will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at Reinbold-Novak Funeral Home, 1535 S. 12th Street, Sheboygan, with Fr. Dennis Beltre officiating. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers and in honor of David’s love of gardening and the beauty he found in nature, memorial gifts of perennials (flowering shrubs or other plants) are welcome. Together, these living tributes will help create a memorial garden lovingly created by Astrid.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the love, support, and condolences shared during this difficult time. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at the funeral home’s website www.reinboldfh.com
