SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – Even with weekends “off” for the Sheboygan County Division of Health Services reports on COVID-19, Monday’s addition of 90 confirmed cases of COVID-19 since Friday stands out, and the graphic from the Sheboygan County Coronavirus Case Dashboard displays a marked increase in the occurrence of the disease within our borders. 17 more persons recovered, and of the 192 active cases remaining, 3 are hospitalized with COVID-19. With 1,367 negative test results received since the last update, the County’s positive return rate over the weekend is just over 6%…3% when considered over the run of the pandemic so far.
46 of the weekend total positive test returns were recorded on Saturday. Combined with the preceding 6 calendar days of last week, 131 – or nearly one-quarter of the 566 total cases so far – were logged in that 7-day period. The County DHS did not speculate why the case number experienced such a marked increase, but in the past had noted that increases were now a combination of known contacts with positive cases, close gatherings, and community spread.
Breaking the cases down to age demographics, the least occurrence has been seen in the population most isolated in the county – those 80 and older – who account for 17 cases, and 80 have occurred in those 60-79 years old. Those two age groups account for 4 of the 5 deaths so far in the County. The other death was someone between 40 and 59 years old. 90 persons under age 20 have been infected, 166 were between 40 and 59, and the majority – 213 – are between 20 and 39 years old.
According to mapping data from the Wisconsin DHS, Sheboygan County’s case load as well as activity level for COVID-19 are both considered “High”. For these and other metrics being weighed, Sheboygan County remains in “Phase-2” of the Sheboygan County Safe Restart plan.
One effort to move the county forward to Phase-3 involves a campaign to “Mask Up Sheboygan”, a promotion to get as many as possible to wear a face mask in public. The DPH’s daily report contains graphics and links to information and a poster that can be used in social media campaigns. After spiking at almost 10% yesterday, Wisconsin positive test results declined to 8.5% today. 590 new confirmed cases were recorded, raising the state total to 49,417. 1 more person died since Sunday, raising the death toll to 893. 26 more persons entered hospitals for care of COVID-19 symptoms. 20% of all cases so far are active.
