Nancy A. Phebus, age 90, of Sheboygan, passed away on June 26, 2026, at Pine Haven Christian Home in Sheboygan Falls. Nancy was born in Chicago on June 25,1936, to the late Victor and Helen Tonnesen. She graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1954 and resided in the Chicago area until moving to Sheboygan (her mother’s hometown) in 1974. She worked as a teacher’s aide for the Sheboygan Area School District for 25 years (first at Farnsworth Middle School, followed by Pigeon River Elementary School, and finally at Urban Middle School), retiring in 1999.
Nancy and her husband, Will, enjoyed many years of camping in northern Wisconsin, northern Minnesota, northern Michigan, and the U.P., with a special appreciation for the beauty of the Lake Superior area. Taking the scenic Amtrak train ride to California (including Yosemite National Park) was a once-in-a-lifetime trip and one of their favorite travel experiences.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Will Phebus; her children, Steve (Sue) D’Amico, Tom (Maria) D’Amico, Vicki (Rick) Brubaker; her stepchildren, Isaac (Julie) Phebus, Aaron (Alison) Phebus; her grandchildren, Kristin (Dan) Sclavi, Krystle (Matt) Pfister, Daniel (Maren) Reinbold, Joe (Chloe) D’Amico, Laurel (Laura Haney) Brubaker, Derek (Stacie) D’Amico, Emily (Abby Sivirian) Brubaker; her step-grandchildren, Ethan Phebus, Ruthie Phebus, Margaret Phebus, Emily Phebus; her great-grandchildren, Madeline Pfister, Hudson Pfister, and Karsyn D’Amico; and her brother, Tom (Julie Byrne Shroka) Tonnesen.
Friends and family are invited to gather for a time of visitation on Thursday, July 9, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to12:00 p.m. at the Reinbold-Novak Funeral Home, 1535 S. 12th Street, Sheboygan. A memorial service will follow immediately afterward, with Pastor David Vandokkumberg officiating. Burial will then take place at Holy Cross Cemetery.
