Once again, scammers are plying their trade by imitating members of Fond du Lac area law enforcement agencies in attempts to separate victims from their money.
The Sheriff said that a number of citizens have called them in the last several days reporting getting calls from somebody identifying themselves as a “Perry Jones”, or “Perry Smet” of either the Sheriff’s Office or the Fond du Lac Police Department. The scam line claims that the person being called missed a jury duty appointment, and will either be held in contempt of court or served a warrant for their arrest. But, of course, they say all will be forgiven for a payment made through any of a number of methods, none of them legitimate.
The Sheriff stresses that they never make such calls and people should NEVER offer any personal identifying information or payments over the phone. The best policy if you get one of these calls is to just hang up.
