The number of Pharmacy options for Sheboygan County residents is about to shrink. In June, Walgreens announced that it will be closing more than 1,200 of its stores nationwide over the next three years, and last week the company released a list of about 500 that will close in the current fiscal year that began in September. Among those, 125 of the 200 Wisconsin locations, were listed for closure within the next 11 months, leaving only 75 Walgreens stores in the Badger State.
Plymouth will be losing its only Walgreens Pharmacy on Eastern Avenue, and while Sheboygan has three Walgreens, on Calumet Drive, North 14th Street and on South Business Drive, the closure list didn’t say which, or how many would be closed.
In making the announcement last week, Walgreens CEO Tim Wentworth said that the move should yield what he calls “significant financial and consumer benefits over the long term”. The closures follow fourth-quarter losses of $3 billion.
