A grant from the WE Energies Foundation will enable Washington County to develop a Tactical Emergency Medical Service program. The $2,000 grant announced on Thursday in West Allis is part of the Foundation’s “Rewarding Responders Grant” program, which has offered $100,000 to police, fire, and EMS agencies over the past several years in an effort to improve public safety and support public safety agencies.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office will use the grant to kick-start the TEMS program that will initially fund ballistic protection vests for Germantown paramedics assigned to the team. Over the next three years, additional funding from the County will fully implement the program that will enable the team to do medical threat assessments, deliver immediate care in challenging environments, and offer logistical support during tactical operations.
