With back-to-school shopping on the increase and vacation days running out, many are hoping the current ideal weather will last long enough to squeeze in at least one last summer outing…and the National Weather Service says odds are in your favor.
Chilly temperatures in the upper 40s greeted early risers this morning, a reminder that changes often come quickly this time of year, but for now nothing drastic is on the horizon. Warm, humid weather should be back by the weekend, and water temperatures are at their seasonal max with Lake Michigan currently at 70 degrees. Long-range outlooks suggest warmer-than-usual air temperatures and near-normal rainfall will be the rule for as long as the next three months.
Whether for maintaining property, construction or farming, those depending on good weather for work are also seeing favorable forecasts. The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture reports that farm fields have good soil moisture, corn is maturing 2 days ahead of the 5-year average, and 95 percent of the soybean crop was blooming. Oats are already 79 percent harvested, while the winter wheat harvest is 97 percent complete. And finally, all hay conditions were rated 77 percent good to excellent.
Overall, we’ll call this a good-to-excellent end to the summer season.
