After downpours producing rainfall rates as high as 6 inches per hour crawled east-to-west across Sheboygan County early Friday afternoon, the National Weather Service issued flash flood warnings from about 3:30-5:30 p.m. By 5:50 p.m. the advisory was re-issued as a Flood Warning in effect until 9 p.m. Friday.
Between 1 and 3 inches of rain had fallen across the northern 2/3 of Sheboygan County by 4:45 p.m., and forecasters warned that flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations was either imminent or already occuring, and with another half, to 1-1/2 inches of additional rain anticipated, problems were only likely to be maintained or worsened for several hours.
Locations predicted to experience flooding by the National Weather Service included Sheboygan, Plymouth, Sheboygan Falls, Howards Grove, Oostburg, Kohler, Cedar Grove, Random Lake, Cascade, Adell, Waldo, Gibbsville, Hingham, Johnsonville and Haven.
Drivers were reminded that flooding can conceal hidden dangers, and were advised to “Don’t drown, turn around” when encountering flooded roads.
