After an extended stretch of fine, dry weather, soaking rains could provide some needed moisture even as it potentially interrupts outdoor activities.
The National Weather Service says the rain is expected in two rounds in general, although in the Sheboygan area the greatest probability is between noon and 10 p.m. as we get squeezed between the two.
The first round, mostly during the morning hours, could include widespread amounts of between one-half and one-inch of precipitation, but no severe weather is expected in this first push of rain.
The second, though, could include thunderstorms containing gusty winds, hail and heavy rain as they redevelop in the warmer afternoon air. The risk of severe weather is a marginal 1-in-5 in Sheboygan County, while the greater risk is limited to Wisconsin’s southern border counties.
Confidence in the forecast is still not solid, and so anyone planning outdoor activities late this afternoon and evening should monitor forecasts for any changes.
