The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development said that new numbers indicate most areas of the state experienced either decreasing or stable unemployment during January. For the Sheboygan area, all trends pointed to a worker’s market.
Raw Data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows 62,500 persons employed during January in the Sheboygan Metro area, a drop of 800 compared to December, but 1,300 more than January of ‘22. Once adjusted for seasonal variations, though, the monthly change disappears with total employment of 63,500 persons. The unemployment rate fell from December’s 2.3% to an unadjusted 2.1% in January, also point-two percent below last year.
For the City of Sheboygan, an identical point-two percent drop was seen both monthly and year-over-year, with January unemployment pegged at 2.3%. Sheboygan was in an 8-way tie for lowest among the state’s 35 largest cities, with the top honor going to the 1.8% logged in Madison.
Sheboygan County now holds the fourth-lowest unemployment rate among Wisconsin’s 72 counties at 2.1%, showing a point-two-percent drop for the month and year-over-year, matching the local City and Metro area trends. Dane County ranks lowest with 1.9% unemployed, while Calumet and Ozaukee tied for second-lowest at 2% even.
(Note: only the total employment numbers were available with seasonal adjustments; the remainder are unadjusted)
