Keeping all figures within the non-seasonally-adjusted categories, December Sheboygan Area workforce statistics from the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development indicated mostly stable conditions.
The number of employed neither grew nor declined since November within the Sheboygan Metropolitan Area with a workforce of 63,400 in December, a gain of 1,200 compared with a year ago. Unemployment in the Sheboygan Metro Area was measured at 2.1% last month, down from 2.3% in November, but up from 1.8% in December of 2022.
The City of Sheboygan saw a one-tenth of a percent decrease in unemployment since November, coming in at 2.5%. That compares with 1.9% last year, and along with six others, qualifies as the 12th lowest unemployment among Wisconsin’s 35 largest cities.
At 2.1%, Sheboygan County’s December 2023 unemployment rate tied Calumet County as the 4th lowest in the state. That’s down from 2.3% in November, and compares with last year’s December unemployment rate of 1.8%.
Statewide, also according to non-seasonally adjusted data, preliminary December 2023 unemployment rates either decreased or stayed the same in nine of 12 Wisconsin metro areas of the month; the rates increased in the remaining three areas. Preliminary December unemployment rates increased in all 12 areas over the year.
