An appeal has been filed with the Waukesha-based 2nd District Court of Appeals in Wisconsin. Sheboygan County District Attorney Joel Urmanski is challenging a Dane County judge’s ruling that an 1849 Wisconsin law does not apply to consensual abortions.
The move to appeal by Urmanski was expected, but until the Appeals Court presents its decision, state Attorney General Josh Kaul has said he expects Urmanski to abide by the judge’s initial ruling which resulted in resumption of abortion services by Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin.
Planned Parenthood Clinics in Milwaukee and Madison are already providing abortions; the third clinic in Sheboygan will follow suit later this month.
