Corona J. “Toni” Barthels, 98, of Sheboygan, passed away Friday morning, October 27, 2023 at the Shores of Sheboygan where she had been residing.
Born April 22, 1925 in Sheboygan, Corona was a daughter of the late Frank and Cora Cevaal Ringel. She attended Sheboygan Christian School. On June 20, 1947, she was united in marriage to Frederick Wallace ” Red” Barthels at the First Christian Reformed Church. They were married for 45 years before Red preceded her in death on July 29, 1992.
Toni was a homemaker who also worked as a seamstress for Spic & Span Cleaners while raising her family. She and Red were founding members of Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Sheboygan. She enjoyed spending her time gardening, painting, collecting dolls, sewing, knitting and crocheting and was an avid ice skater. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Terry (Denise) Barthels, Centennial, CO, Timothy (Sharon) Barthels, Sheboygan Falls, and Bonnie (Rev. Greg Whelton) Kuester, Howards Grove; eleven grandchildren, Morgan (Ryan) Jarrett, Megan Jackson, Evan Barthels, Tyson Barthels, Elizabeth Barthels, Matt Barthels, Ryanne (Pat) Froh, Jesse (Ashley) Krom, Patrick Krom, Scott (Alyssa) Krom and Allyson (Adam Strucel) Krom; 12 great grandchildren, Gabriella, Nolan, Alana, Isabella, Cassidy, Camden, Molly, Taeton, Preston, Greyson, Lily and Connor; her sisters, Joyce (Carl) Meggers, Sheboygan, and Betty (Frank) Konz; her brother, Ken (Kathy) Ringel; brother-in-law, Gene Heinen; nieces, nephews,other relatives and friends.
Besides her parents and husband, Frederick, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Charlotte Ringel, Marian Heinen and Caroline (Joe) Vrubley; two brothers, Donald (Audrey) Ringel and Richard Ringel; and a son-in-law, Kevin Kuester.
Funeral services for Corona will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 3, 2023 at Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 4930 Green Valley Lane, Sheboygan. Pastor John Hilbelink will officiate. Family and friends are welcome at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will take place in Wildwood Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established in her name for Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church.
