Harold M. Holt, 88, passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at Aurora Medical Center, Grafton
surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 27, 1934 to Hilda and Merton Holt in Clark
County. He attended a rural grade school and graduated from Neillsville High School in 1952. He grew up
on a farm near Granton.
In 1955, he moved to Sheboygan and worked at the Kohler Company for 41 years, retiring in 1997. He
was a member of the Kohler Company’s Quarter Century Club.
On October 6, 1956, he married Joan M. Post at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sheboygan. She preceded
him in death on May 30, 2019 after 62 wonderful years of marriage. He was a member of Trinity from
1956 until the time of his death.
Harold enjoyed playing softball and bowling in his younger years. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing,
gardening, trap shooting, and playing skat. He enjoyed camping and annual trips to a cottage near Eagle
River. He was involved in youth education in outdoor sports. He was a Hunter Safety Instructor for 41
years graduating over 3,000 students and a charter member of the Ducks Unlimited Greenwing Day
Committee, an outdoor day to teach youths about waterfowl hunting. He was a 50-year member of
Koenig’s Conservation Club. In 2013, he was selected as conservationist of the year by the Sheboygan
County Conservation Association, and in 2018 he was inducted into the Conservation Associations Hall
of Fame.
Harold is survived by his two daughters, Vicki (Keith) Pfister and Sherri (David) Schoening; two sons,
Jeffrey (Deborah) Holt and Patrick (Terry) Holt; 7 grandchildren, Melissa (Michael) Rank, Matthew
(Krystle) Pfister, Jeb (Steve Thomas) Holt, Megan (Derek) Yurk, Ryan (Celia) Schoening, Robert
(Jessica) Holt and Alexandria (Jacob) Geiger; 8 great-grandchildren, Natalie and Elizabeth Rank,
Madeline and Hudson Pfister, Oliver, Lincoln and Everly Yurk, Avery Schoening, and a ninth great-
grandchild expected in March; one sister Joyce Schommer and sister-in-law and Linda Post.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Elsie and Roland Post; his
son, Daniel; his brother and sister-in-law Robert and Patricia Holt; his sister and brother-in-law, Carol and
Ronald Boushon; his brother and sister-in-law Gerald and Ruth Holt; and in-laws Roger and Angeline
Post, Ronald Post and Jonas Schommer.
A funeral service for Harold will be held on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at Ballhorn Chapels
Funeral and Cremation Care Center, 1201 N 8th St., Sheboygan with Pastor Timothy Mech officiating.
Family will greet visitors at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. The
interment will be private. Harold will be laid to rest next to Joan at Lutheran Cemetery, Sheboygan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Holt Family Scholarship through Trinity Lutheran
Church, Sheboygan.
