Blood Supplies Remain Strained

Blood supplies remain tight following a summer of shortages and high demand for blood products.

While acknowledging – and thanking – the thousands who rolled up a sleeve since the national blood shortage was announced a month ago, an estimated 10,000 additional donors are needed each week for another month in order to meet hospital demand.

In order to encourage donations, for the next month, the Red Cross is offering a $10 gift card by email to a restaurant or merchant of the donor’s choice to enjoy lunch, and will be automatically entered to win a $5,000 gift card, with one random winner chosen each of the next three weeks.

Appointments to donate can be made by visiting RedCrossBlood.org, and upcoming area blood drives are listed below.
