It’s no mystery that nice weather makes for a nice drive, but the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office says that what they’ve been observing has no place on our roads. The problem is an increasing frequency of speeding violations, at least one of them reaching speeds more commonIy recorded by a racing sprint car. Two incidents on Thursday morning illustrated the problem.
In one instance an officer, addressing a speeding complaint on a County roadway, observed a vehicle traveling more than 33 miles an hour over the posted 55 mph limit…88 miles per hour. That would qualify for a ticket on I-43. But I-43 had its own example that left the other “in the dust”. The officer in the second case clocked a vehicle traveling 148 miles an hour, more than two times the posted limit…a speed that “not only puts the operator at risk of harm but everyone around them.”
The Sheriff’s Office said that “Our Officers are few and the violations are many”, and requested that the community do their part in making sure that everyone gets home safely. They suggested to leave a little earlier and plan for construction and delays, and that together “we can make our roadways a little safer!”
