Cynthia (nee Kraemer) Grosskreutz Devine, age 96, of Sheboygan, WI, passed away early Sunday morning (December 11, 2022) surrounded by her loving family at the Sharon S. Richardson Hospice Center in Sheboygan Falls.
She was born on May 29, 1926, in the town of Scott, Sheboygan County, WI, the daughter of the late Elwyn and Agnes (Haag) Kraemer Anderson. She attended a one-room country school for eight years and received her GED at 40.
On January 16, 1943, she married Carl Grosskreutz, who preceded her in death in 2005. She married Thomas Devine on March 16, 2002, in Longboat Key, FL. The couple resided in Sheboygan Falls. He preceded her in death on February 11, 2009.
She was employed at Wigwam Mills for ten years and worked at the Kohler Company for 24 years.
Cynthia was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church in Sheboygan. She was a dedicated member of United Methodist Women, having served locally and on the district level. She also belonged to the Women’s Local UAW 833 Union. She served on committees for the Sheboygan Democratic Party, the Deland Receiving Home, Sheboygan County Apartment Association, and Parents without Partners.
She supported many groups and organizations; American Child for 16 years, Pearl S. Buck Foundation, and the Red Cross Blood Bank (achieving the 11 Gallon mark). She participated in the Sheboygan School District Partners in Reading Program for ten years and enjoyed traveling to England, Israel, Egypt, Turkey, and 4 Scandinavian countries.
Survivors include five children: Charles Grosskreutz (Jennifer Jensema) of Sheboygan Falls, Christine (Richard) Kuitert of Sheboygan, Connie (Fred) Meyer of Sheboygan, Dennis (Stephanie) Grosskreutz of Florida, Carol Butzen (Richard Ziegler) of Sheboygan and five stepdaughters. 11 grandchildren: Shari Forbes, Vicki Filz, Jessica (Craig) Kohn, Amy (Anton) Reinert, Bryan Meyer (his wife: Anne Ryan) Eric (Angela) Meyer, Christopher Daley, Carrie (Tom) Peterson, Mark Boswell, Nikkie Fisher (Scott Quasius) and Matthew (Samantha) Butzen, 18 great-grandchildren, three siblings; Rachel Steinke of Plymouth, Norbert (Janice) Kraemer of Waldo and Judith Thiel of Bellevue, WA. Two sisters-in-law: Donna Kraemer of Chippewa Falls and Leah Weinhold of Sheboygan Falls. She is also survived by many step-grandchildren, step great, grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather Herbert Anderson, daughter-in-law Cindy Grosskreutz, brother Calvin Kraemer, and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at 12:30 P.M. at the Suchon Funeral
Home in Plymouth. Rev. Cindy Thompson, pastor of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Sheboygan, will officiate. Cremation has taken place.
Visitation will be held on Saturday Morning (Jan 14) from 10:30 A.M. until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Cynthia’s name for the Sheboygan
County Historical Research Center, St. Luke United Methodist Women, or the United Methodist
Children’s Services in Milwaukee.
