Shirley Mauk, age 91, of Elkhart Lake passed away on November 29, 2022 at Aurora Medical Center in
Grafton due to a sudden illness.
She was born in the Town of Mitchel of Sheboygan County on April 15, 1931 a daughter of the late
Henry and Roma (Ullerich) Dippel. She attended Paynes Grade School and graduated from Plymouth
High School in 1950.
On May 17, 1952 she married William Mauk at Emmauel United Church of Christ. She worked at
Borden’s Cheese Factory, and for many years on the family farm before becoming a cook at Rocky Knoll
for 19 years. She was very skilled at turning bland diets into delectable meals. After she retired, the
clients at Rocky Knoll remembered how the food was when she worked there.
She had many friends and a very close-knit family. Before retiring, she enjoyed traveling including going
to Hawaii and various other trips with friends. She played cards on Wednesday with the girls she
worked with enjoying homemade desserts along the way. As a member of the ‘We Love to Dance Club’
she enjoyed dancing and listening to Polka music with her friend Henry Umstadt. She enjoyed polkas
even if it was played only on a piano and became a Bingo expert while at Cedar Landing. She was very
organized and kept a spotless house to be admired by her children. Her kind and sweet disposition
made her many friends. The love she had for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren was
returned many times over with hugs, visits, phone calls, and family gatherings.
She is survived by her brother; Arno Dippel, five children; Eugene (Sue) Mauk, Allen (Nancy) Mauk, Betty
Mauk, James Mauk, Robert (Kelly Murphy) Mauk, 4 grandchildren; Brian (Katrina) Mauk, Brenda (Rex)
Deal, Melissa Mauk, Amanda (Kevin Goggin), Kaitlyn (Arthur Weborg), Arin Mauk, 6 great grand-
children, Jada Mauk, Phineas Goggin, Gwendolyn Goggin, Aliyah Weborg, Lillian Weborg, and Gavin
Weborg. Her special friend: Henry Umstadt also survives. She is further survived by many relatives and
friends.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, a grandchild, Andrew, and two great grandchildren,
Angel and Boyd.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday evening (December 7, 2022) at 6:00 P.M. at the Suchon
Funeral Home in Plymouth. Pastor Dale Miller will officiate. Burial will be in St. Johns Cemetery in
Elkhart Lake.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday (December 7) from 4:00 P.M. at the Suchon Funeral Home until
the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being set up in Shirley’s name.
