Charles W. “Bill” McClelland, 101, of Sheboygan, passed away Sunday afternoon, November 27, 2022 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
Born October 1, 1921 in Mendon, IL, Bill was a son of the late Earl and Mary Grace Hawe McClelland. He attended Mendon, IL area schools and graduated from Mendon High School. He then went on to serve his country during WWII in the U.S. Army. On May 27, 1950, he was united in marriage to Margaret B. Ploetz at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. They were married for 71 years before Margaret preceded him in death on August 10, 2021.
Bill was a police officer for the city of Sheboygan for 26 years before his retirement in 1977. He was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. He was an avid outdoors man who enjoyed hunting and gardening.
He is survived by his two sons, Michael McClelland, OH, and Terry McClelland, Sheboygan; two grandchildren, Michael, New York, and Adam, Siagon, Vietnam; two great grandchildren; his sisters, June Harmon, Quincy, IL, and Kathryn Mankin of Allegan, MI; a brother-in-law Jack Ventsias, Oswego, IL nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides his parents and his wife, Margaret, he was preceded in death by his four sisters, Ruth Eloise (Marvin) Heidbreder, Betty (Harry) Little, Blanche Ventsias and Dorothy (Rocky) Holzschuh.
Private family graveside services will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
