James Eric “Jim” Archer, age 75, of Adell, passed away peacefully at home into the arms of the Lord on
November 2, 2021.
Jim was born in Plymouth on July 17, 1946, son of the late Ray and Evelyn (Kestell) Archer. He attended
Plymouth High School for 3 years and graduated from Random Lake High School in 1964.
After high school Jim worked in various positions some of which included vacuum cleaner salesman,
foundry worker, and car salesman. After he realized he didn’t want to work for someone else, he and a
friend purchased and operated The Question Mark Tavern in Adell.
On April 28, 1973, he married Beth Laux at the Methodist Church in Batavia. Together they operated the
tavern for several years. Jim and Beth purchased a ServiceMaster franchise and later started and built
their own business, Archer Mat Rental & Sales, in Adell for the last 31 years. Jim and Beth were married
48 years. Jim deeply loved his wife and family.
Early on Jim was a very good pool shooter and a charter member of the Adell Lions Club. He was a fan of
classic Cadillacs, western movies, and Johnny Cash. Jim’s sense of humor was always on display and he
was the master of the “dad joke.” He always had an open porch and an empty seat for anyone to sit
down and chat.
Jim was an active member of Grace Bible Church in Adell where he and Beth attended since the church’s
second week of existence in 1987. Jim served in the Awana Club for several years. Jim’s faith in Jesus
Christ was very important to him. On July 4, 1981, he received Christ as his personal Savior. In Jim’s eyes
this was his TRUE “Independence Day.”
Survivors include his wife, Beth; Three children: Nate (Hope) Archer of Michigan, Regan (Kelly) Archer of
Colorado, and Leah (Justin) Fisher of Plymouth; Ten grandchildren: Eric, Zoe, Luke, Joel, Mollie, Piper,
Skylar, & Finley Archer, and Kaitlynn & Colin Fisher; Two sisters: Carol (Wes) Jerving, and Lana (Bruce)
LaFleur; Two brothers-in-law: Jerry Laux (Carol Schneider), and Bill Laux (Lynn); as well as nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a niece and a nephew.
