A Sheboygan Woman is among 15 persons granted pardons by Governor Tony Evers on Friday.
Crystal Duran was 17 and pregnant when she served as a translator to enable her boyfriend to sell controlled substances. She now works as a caregiver and lives with her family in Sheboygan.
The Governor resumed pardons through an Executive Order in 2019 after no pardons were issued during the Walker administration. Under that order, individuals convicted of a Wisconsin felony may apply for a pardon if they completed their sentence at least five years ago and have no pending criminal charges. Once pardoned, some of the rights lost due to a felony conviction are restored, including the right to serve on a jury, hold public office, and hold certain professional licenses, but it does not expunge court records.
Duran is now among 278 persons pardoned so far by Governor Evers.
