
Donald H. Breitzman, age 83, of Plymouth, WI, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning
(September 30, 2021) at Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s in Milwaukee.
He was born on April 4, 1938 in the town of Lyndon, a son to the late Edwin and Esther (Plautz)
Breitzman.
He attended Cascade elementary school and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1957.
He joined the U.S. Army in November 1957 for 6 months. He was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood,
Missouri and Fort Carson, Colorado, following up with 5 and half years of Army Reserve Duty.
He worked for Borden’s for 5 years and drove concrete truck for Schmitz Ready Mix out of Mequon for
12 years. Then he worked for the Sheboygan County Highway Department for 23 years. He was a grader
operator and the last 7 years was foreman at the Cascade Shed retiring in 1998.
On June 19, 1965 he married Joan Wassink at the Oostburg Reformed Church. They lived in Cascade for
35 years and moved to Plymouth in 2000.
He was baptized, confirmed and a longtime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Cascade. He served
on the Board of Trustees, Board of Stewardship, and Board of Elders. He also served on the St. Paul’s
Church Cemetery Association for 33 years (he replaced his father Edwin in 1980 and served until 2013).
Donald served on the Cascade Village Board for a number of years. He was a former member of the
Cascade Fire Department and Cascade Sportsmen’s Club. He was a charter member of the Cascade
Apollo Riders Snowmobile Club and enjoyed snowmobiling for 42 years.
In 2018 he became a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Plymouth.
In his younger years he enjoyed fixing and working on cars. He also enjoyed working in his workshop,
spending time at their cottage near Crandon, and the many trips made to Texas to visit family and spend
time with the grandchildren.
Donald loved to travel, visiting all 50 states. His most special trips were to Germany, Norway, and the
Panama Canal.
Donald is survived by his loving wife, Joan; sons Brian (Jenny) Rockwall, Texas and Steven, Plymouth;
grandchildren, Michael (Katy) Fort Hood, Texas and Abby, Rockwall Texas. He is also survived by two
great grandchildren Silas and Elijah; one sister Joyce (Doug) Schweyer, Hamilton Ontario, Canada, one
sister-in-law-Peggy Breitzman, Cascade, one foster sister-in-law Lillie Putnam, Carrollton, Texas, one
foster brother-in-law Douglas Putnam Sheboygan, Wisconsin and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and
friends.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; in law‘s Wilmer and Josie Wassink; siblings and in-laws,
Bob (Ellen) Breitzman, Phyllis (Merlin) Guell, Vivian (Carlyle) Johnanning, Ruth (Bob) Krueger, twin
brother, David Breitzman and infant brother Ralph Breitzman; foster brother-in-law John Putnam,
Carrollton, Texas
Funeral services will be held on Friday evening (October 8, 2021) at 6:30 P.M. at the Suchon Funeral
Home in Plymouth. Rev. John Schultz, Pastor of St. John Lutheran Church in Plymouth, will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Cascade.
Visitation will take place at Suchon Funeral Home on Friday from 4:00 P.M. until time of services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are being established in Don’s name for Orange Cross Ambulance Service,
National Kidney Foundation, St. John Lutheran Church and School or a memorial of your choice.
