Barbara Fay Pahr, 78, of Plymouth, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at
Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center.
Barb was born on June 20, 1943 in Regina, Sask., Canada, to Rev. Carl and Helen (Titel) Fried. Being born
of American parents in Canada, Barbara was a dual citizen. Barb attended her first two years of school
at LeCain School, on top of the Qu’Appelle Valley. Her older brother, Lloyd, would take them in a horse
and buggy until winter, when they would then go over the snow with a horse and cutter. In 1951, the
Fried family moved to Delmont, South Dakota. It was there, that Barbara became involved with baton
twirling, and playing the clarinet and piano. One of her happiest moments as a young girl, was playing
with the Delmont School Band at the Mitchell Corn Palace after marching in the parade through town. In
1957 Barbara was confirmed by her father at Delmont Reformed Church.
In the summer of 1957, Barbara and her family moved to rural Elkhart Lake, WI, where her father
became pastor at Bethel UCC. While there, Barbara sang in the church choir and continued playing the
piano, as well as her clarinet with the Kiel High School band. In 1958, she was asked to join the Kiel
Municipal Band, where she was still an active member. Barbara graduated Kiel High School in 1961 and
furthered her education at Lakeland College [now University].
On June 20, 1964, she married Arthur Pahr, on her 21 st birthday, at Bethel UCC, where her father and
brother Lloyd performed the ceremony. Barbara and Art then moved to Plymouth. She continued with
her education at Lakeland, graduating with a music major. She taught music in Elkhart Lake for three and
half years, then taught music in Sheboygan Falls for 25 years, until her retirement in 2000.
Barbara was a member of Salem UCC in Plymouth, where she was the organist. Barbara was proud to be
a 21 gallon blood donor with the Red Cross. She was a member of the ALS Association – Golden West
Chapter, where together with Art, they won the t-shirt design contest in 2021. Barbara was a past
member of the Governing Board of Directors for Valley View Medical Center, past member of Elkhart
Lake-Glenbeulah Education Association, Sheboygan Falls Faculty Association, Wisconsin Education
Association, and National Education Association.
Barbara enjoyed word search puzzles, playing Liverpool rummy with family members and solitaire on
the iPad. She loved traveling with Art, they traveled to all 50 states, most of the Canadian provinces, 35
foreign countries, many Caribbean Islands, several South Pacific Islands, and walked on all seven
continents.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband, Art; son: Cameron of Custer; daughter: Rebecca Huntley of
