Lucille A. Brass died peacefully at the age of 96 on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at Harvest Home
assisted living in Howards Grove. Having outlived many of her family members and friends, she was
looking forward to her reunion with them and is now where she wanted to be.
She was born on April 2, 1925, to Theodore and Olinda (Pagel) Spindler in the town of Rhine. She grew
up as the youngest of 4 sisters. On September 23, 1944, she was united in marriage to Eugene H. Brass
at St. Paul Evangelical and Reformed Church in the town of Russell. They farmed together on the farm
that Eugene had purchased in 1940. She was an avid gardener and seamstress and was known for her
great cooking. She was a loving and supportive wife and mother, cared about other people and was an
advocate on their behalf. She often put others before herself.
Retiring in 1986, Lucille and Eugene moved to their new home in Howards Grove. They enjoyed bus trips
and playing cards with neighbors and friends. They celebrated their 65 th wedding anniversary in 2009.
She was a member of St. John’s U.C.C., Schwarzwald and appreciated her church family. In her later
years she spent a lot of time reading, finally having the time to do so.
Lucille is survived by a son, Wayne (Jane) Brass; a daughter, Pearl (Terry) Fritz; grandchildren, Erika
(Mike) Celeste, Ben (Abby) Brass, Hillary (Steve) Brass, Maeghan (Wes) Brass, Megan (Greer) Craig, Joe
(Chandra) Wellbaum, David Wellbaum, Andrew (Katharine) Wellbaum; 15 great-grandchildren; as well
as nieces and nephews. Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene, in 2009; sisters and
brothers-in-law, Adeline (Walter) Schlichting, Ruth (Warren) Limberg, Viola (Arno) Knoener; brothers-in-
law and sisters-in-law, Elroy (Janet) Brass, Archie (Dorothy) Brass; granddaughter, Celeste Brass; special
friend, Harold Henschel; as well as nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 25 th at 2:00 p.m. at St. John’s U.C.C., Schwarzwald,
W3401 Orchard Rd, Elkhart Lake. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 12:30 until the time
of service. Due to the coronavirus, masks will be required, and social distancing advised. A recording of
