
Norbert F. “Norby” Gumtow, age 89, Plymouth, WI, passed away peacefully on Thursday (July 8th, 2021)
at Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac.
He was born on November 14, 1931 in Plymouth, WI, a son of the late Walter and Vera (Proefrock)
Gumtow.
Norby attended Spring Farm School in the Town of Mitchell and attended Plymouth High School.
He was employed at Clevepak Corporation in Plymouth and was a Railroad Section and Crossing
Flagman for the Milwaukee Road Railroad for nine years. He then worked at Borden Foods Company in
Plymouth, retiring in 1994 after 35 years.
On June 28, 1952, he married Helen Schur at Salem United Church of Christ in Plymouth. The couple has
resided in Plymouth since their marriage. His wife Helen preceded him in death on October 13, 2005.
He had been a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Plymouth and was an usher in the Church.
He also belonged to Dartball Leagues.
He enjoyed hiking, biking, skiing and putting together puzzles with others. He loved his grandchildren
very much and was devoted to support them in whatever they chose to do.
Survivors include his son: Craig Gumtow of Sheboygan Falls; daughter: Tami (Dan) Rizzi of Plymouth;
grandson: Michael (Sarah) Gumtow of Oshkosh; two granddaughters: Julia Rizzi (Fiancé: Sam Showers)
of Milwaukee and Amanda (Jason) Covaleski of Elkhart Lake; great-granddaughter: Cora Gumtow; sister:
Gelane Goldbeck of Sheboygan Falls; brother: Walter (Charlotte) Gumtow of Monroe, WI, and brother-
in-law: George Schur of Elkhart Lake.
He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, an infant son, and sister-in-law, Margaret Schur.
Following Norbert’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Suchon Funeral Home
on Friday (July 16th) from 4:00 – 6:00 PM, with a memorial service to follow at 6:00 PM. Pastor Dale
Miller, Pastor of Salem Plankroad UCC, will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Plymouth Woodlawn
Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Norbert’s name.
