SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – After the long Labor Day holiday weekend, the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health issued its first COVID-19 update since Friday, the 4th of September, and the news was somber. One more person, identified only as a county resident in their 70’s, passed away due to COVID-19, becoming the 10th county resident to die of the disease. 43 more positive test results were received; 19 on Saturday, 7 on Sunday, 5 on Monday and 12 more Tuesday, raising the confirmed case count to 1,160. That amounts to a positive return rate of 4.3%. 51 persons recovered, lowering the active case count to 98. 9 of those are hospitalized.
Broken down by ages, the largest demographic in the COVID count are those in their twenties, comprising 261 – or 22.5% – of all cases. 172 were to persons in their fifties, 168 in their thirties, 162 in their fourties, 141 between 10 and 19, 125 in their sixties, 49 in their seventies, 44 in their eighties and 28 were under 10 years of age. The most recent casualty was one of 4 in their seventies, 3 were in their 60s, 2 victims were over 80 years old and one was in their 40s.
Wisconsin’s toll was upped by 3,123 since Friday, putting the state’s total cases at 82,477. 946 were added Saturday, 893 on Sunday, 567 on Monday and another 717 were added Tuesday. Although this past Friday saw the highest single-day number of new cases at 1,498, the positive return rate that day was 12.8%. That jumped to 16.2% Sunday, and has now hit 17.6% of all tests. Actual total test numbers today, however, dropped to only 4,083 – the lowest so far this month. Over the weekend, 15 more persons died in Wisconsin, raising the death toll to 1,168. 29 more persons entered hospitals for treatment in the last 24-hours, putting the patient population at 298. 88 of those are in the ICU, and another 138 persons are hospitalized and awaiting their test results. 370 persons are now on ventilators in the state.
