The victims of a crash that killed one person in Ozaukee County a week ago have been named by the Sheriff there. The accident happened when a southbound semi truck lost control, crossed the median, and was impacted by northbound vehicles at Highway 33 in the Town of Saukville.
The driver of a Mercedes van that became pinned beneath the semi was 71-year-old Thomas Paine of Johnson Creek. He died on the scene.
The driver of a second vehicle is 29-year-old Elizabeth Long of Racine. A third driver, 36-year-old Luke Reynebeau and his front-seat passenger, 36-year-old Michael Schulz, were injured, while a 1-year-old child in the back seat was uninjured. Those three hail from Chicago.
The semi driver, 49-year-old Jose Velazquez Medina of West Allis, wasn’t injured. He was cited for Failure to Maintain Control of a Vehicle and the Illegal Crossing of a Divided Highway.
The investigation is still underway with final reconstruction and toxicology reports yet to be released.
