Amid the swirl of cuts being made daily to federal programs in Washington, Governor Evers has penned a letter to Wisconsin’s Congressional Republicans asking them to stand up for Wisconsin against billions of dollars in losses to the state.
The Governor pointed to the chaos already being felt from executive actions taken by the President in a state where over a quarter of the last two-year state budget came from the federal government. He said the impacts could be felt everywhere from funding for kids and schools, to roads, bridges and community safety. Evers said that the $500 million dollar balance he included in his recent budget proposal might not be enough to make up for those cuts.
Evers made a point of localizing the impacts, stating that within Congressman Glenn Grothman’s District 6 alone, proposed cuts to Medicaid would hit more than 121 thousand (121,641) residents to the tune of $1.5 billion dollars.
The Governor urged congressional Republicans to “…do more than offer vague concern for these reckless actions and cuts, stand up for Wisconsinites…” and to “…advocate to do what is right for our constituents, our communities, our state, and our country.”
