Gertrude D. Rooker, passed away Sunday, December 22, 2024 at Aurora Medical Center in Sheboygan. She was 97 years old.
Gertrude was born December 8,1927 in the town of Rhine, daughter of Wybrand and Jennie (Sanders) Rooker. She attended Victory School, a one-room schoolhouse in the town of Rhine. For 38 years she worked at Borden Foods (Dairy Farmers of America) in Plymouth.
A lifetime member of First Reformed Church in Sheboygan Falls, Gertrude was a member of the Dorcas Society, a former choir member, and attended Ambassadors Sunday School. She enjoyed going for walks, reading, yard work, working on her flower beds, embroidering, crocheting, and traveling internationally with her sister Marie, with favorite destinations including Nova Scotia, DC and Hawaii. Every year, she looked forward to celebrating Christmas with her sister JoAnn’s family.
Gertrude is survived by her sister JoAnn Opitz Grant, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and many friends.
She is preceded in death by 2 sisters, Marie Rooker and Dorothy Dunham; 6 brothers, Henry (Myrtha), Edward (Florence), Willis (Janet), Donald, Raymond (Marilyn) and Robert (Mary).
A Memorial Service celebrating Gertrude’s life will be held at 1:30PM on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at First Reformed Church in Sheboygan Falls. All are welcome to view a livestream of the service on Gertrude’s obituary page at www.wenigfh.com . The family will receive visitors at the church on Tuesday from 11:30AM-1:30PM. She will be laid to rest at Sheboygan Falls Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in her name.
