Sheboygan County District Attorney Joel Urmanski says he’ll appeal a Dane County judge’s ruling that a state law from 1849 doesn’t prohibit abortions. Urmanski represented Sheboygan as one of three counties where Planned Parenthood operates abortion clinics, claiming that even though the Roe v Wade ban on abortions nationwide had been overturned by the US Supreme Court, the 1800s-era Wisconsin ban on abortions still applied.
Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul said that as the appeals court has issued its declaratory judgement, he expected the three defendants to respect the decision of the court for the time being.
Urmanski argued against the affirmed opinion that the Wisconsin law applied only to feticide, and said that he would appeal the decision.
