A collision between two semis proved fatal to one of the drivers and landed the other in the hospital.
The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched, along with Wisconsin State Patrol and first responders, to US Highway 151 and Lower Falls Road, about 2 miles east of Valders shortly before 2 PM on Tuesday.
Investigators determined that a Mack semi-truck operated by a 44-year-old Illinois man was eastbound on 151 when it crossed the centerline and collided with a Freightliner semi traveling westbound.
The 55-year-old Freightliner driver from De Pere was extricated from his cab and then airlifted by ThedaStar to ThedaCare Regional Medical Center for treatment, while the Illinois man was declared deceased at the scene.
The Wisconsin State Patrol is conducting a full crash reconstruction, and the accident remains under investigation.
