Forecasters are increasing their assessment of snow potential in a system forecast to impact much of southern Wisconsin on Sunday.
As the weather system responsible for the expected weather approaches, National Weather Service meteorologists in the Milwaukee/Sullivan Weather Forecast Office say that they believe snow will begin overspreading southern Wisconsin from west to east late this evening through early Sunday morning, ending in the afternoon throughout the area.
Timing in the Sheboygan area puts the most likely start time between midnight and 2 a.m., with 9 a.m. accumulation rates of between 1/4 and 1/3 of an inch per hour. With snowfall ending between 2 and 4 p.m., that should allow for a general 1-2 inch snowfall in the area, with the outside chance of greater amounts further inland of Lake Michigan.
Given the precipitation and temperature profiles, forecasters say medium travel impacts are possible such as slippery spots on untreated roadways – especially in the morning, and slower speeds should be expected.
