
Philip J. Buteyn, age 76, was called home to his Lord and Savior on Saturday, November 4, 2023,
at his home.
He was born in Sheboygan on October 30, 1947, to the late Henry and Nelda (Verniel) Buteyn.
He attended Sheboygan Christian School and graduated from North High School in 1965. After
high school, he furthered his education at UW Sheboygan, LTC, and Herzing Institute in
Milwaukee, receiving his associates degree in computer programming. Phil proudly served his
country, enlisting in the United States Army in 1967, serving in both Vietnam and Desert Storm.
Between active duty and U.S. Army Reserves, Phil attained the rank of Sergeant First Class,
serving until August of 1992. He was employed at The Sheboygan Water Utility for over 26
years, retiring in 2007.
On February 13, 1971, Phil married Rose Anne Losey at St. Paul Lutheran Church. She preceded
him in death on December 5, 2019. Phil was a faithful member of Luther Memorial Lutheran
Church, serving on the board of elders, the fellowship committee and the church council.
Phil enjoyed watching the Brewers, Packers, UW football & basketball, antiquing, pheasant
hunting and tending to his yard and vehicles.
He is survived by his children, Brian (Luke) Buteyn-Soeby and Rebecca (Joel) Fetterer;
grandchildren, Dominick Fetterer, Ava Rose Fetterer and Lily Fetterer; siblings, Jerith (Jeff)
Buteyn-Gier and Jane Buteyn; brother and sister-in-law, Don (Pat) Losey; special cousins, Bruce
and Bernie; good friends, Mel and Jimmy; nieces, nephews, other family and friends further
survive.
A Funeral Service for Phil will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 10, 2023, at Luther
Memorial Lutheran Church, 1127 Eisner Ave., in Sheboygan. Family will greet visitors on Friday,
at church, from 9:00 AM until the time of the service. Phil will be laid to rest at Greenlawn
Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Phil’s name can be made to either Luther Memorial Lutheran
Church or Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
The family would like to thank the staff at Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic and at Sharon S.
Richardson Community Hospice for the care given to Phil.
