Carol Buschmann of Sheboygan, a member of the Chordettes that rose to fame in the 1950s, has died at age 96. Buschmann, born Carol Hagedorn in Sheboygan in 1927, joined the Chordettes in 1947, replacing original member Alice Spielvogel, her sister-in-law, who was leaving the group. The Chordettes went on to win Authur Godfrey’s “Talent Scouts” radio program in 1948 and broke into the charts with “Mr. Sandman”, which reached number-one in 1955. Another song, “Lollipop”, reached number 2 in 1958, and the group charted numerous other songs until disbanding in 1963. The Chordettes and Buschmann were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2001. Only one member of the eight eventual Chordette members survives, that being Marjie Needham Latzko of New York.
Buschmann is survived by daughter Janet and her husband David Sly, along with many grand, and great-grand children, nieces, nephews, extended family, friends – and fans.
