On Saturday hundreds of students – many from Sheboygan County – will receive their diplomas during commencement at the UW-Green Bay, and while their impact on the world will just be starting, a recent study by the University shows that the impact of the school and its presence in Sheboygan County is already significant.
The Wisconsin Idea Database Project highlights those impacts, and some of the facts uncovered include:
. Some 300 of the approximately 17,000 in-state undergrads now in Madison come from Sheboygan County.
. $1.15 million of the total financial aid provided by the UW went to Sheboygan County undergrads.
. 52 students from Sheboygan County got full-ride financial aid through either the “Bucky’s Tuition Promise” or the “Badger Promise” programs.
Beyond the financial, UW-Madison partners with at least 5 Sheboygan County healthcare facilities to provide critical on-the-job training to UW-Madison medical, nursing and pharmacy students. And of the 18,000 alumni of UW-Madison’s School of Medicine and Public Health, School of Nursing, and School of Pharmacy currently living in Wisconsin, 209 of those are here in Sheboygan County.
The UW also said that it spent $164,000 during the 2021-22 fiscal year with Sheboygan County vendors, businesses, individuals and organizations.
UW Vice Chancellor for University Relations Charles Hoslet said that the Wisconsin Idea Database Project illustrates the positive impact made by the University both in Sheboygan County and throughout the state.
