Ground was broken on a new Sheboygan Falls subdivision on Monday, a project intended to make more entry-level homes available to a workforce that’s also in short supply and in need of that housing.
The Founders’ Pointe Subdivision, located on a parcel southwest of the highway 32/23 intersection, will be part of a larger initiative that the SCEDC says involves building some 600 homes throughout Sheboygan County over the next six years. The Founders’ Pointe homes will each consist of three bedrooms, two baths and a two-car attached garage.
Groundbreaking was done with Sheboygan County Economic Development Corporation Board Chair Don Hammond and Sheboygan Falls Mayor Randy Meyer accompanied by representatives of Sargento Foods, Masters Gallery Foods, Kohler Company, Jonhsonville Inc. and Sheboygan County officials. Those entities are contributors to the SCEDC’s Forward Fund, which raised some $8 million to make the project possible.
Sheboygan County has less than a 20-day supply of entry-level homes on the market, while local industries are short some 2,500 workers – that shortage in large part attributed to the lack of affordable housing.
Founders Pointe homes will sell for under $250,000. According to the Wisconsin Realtors Association, “entry-level” homes fall between 125-350 thousand dollars, while the strongest supply of homes over the last year were priced at $500,000 or more. The WRA’s latest median home price in southeast Wisconsin was $275,000.
Editor’s note: The original story suggested that Founders’ Pointe will have 600 homes, which is incorrect. This revised story shows that there is a goal of 600 homes in Sheboygan County overall. We regret the error.
