
James O. Berge of Sheboygan passed away Sunday, September 12, 2021, at the
age of 87. Jim was born in Sheboygan on June 1, 1934, to the late Orrin and Laura
(Busse) Berge. He was a 1952 graduate of Central High School. Following
graduation, Jim proudly served his country in the US Army from 1955-1957. On
August 18, 1962, Jim was united in marriage to Carol (Wentz) Kober at Grace
United Church of Christ in Kohler. Jim worked as a carpenter for Casper and
A.C.E. Construction in Manitowoc and then for Quasius Bros. in Sheboygan until
his retirement; he was a member of the local Carpenters Union. Jim was a member
of First United Lutheran Church where he served as an usher and part of the yard
crew. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and playing sheepshead and
cribbage. He and his father built a cottage up-north and he loved spending time
there with family. Jim and Carol traveled throughout the continental United States
and world travels included Jamaica, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Kenya, and
most recently, a Danube River cruise from Bucharest to Budapest.
Survivors include his loving wife Carol, daughter Diane Berge of Sheboygan, son
Brian (Julie) Berge of Cleghorn, WI, grandchildren Adam Roberts, Hannah
Roberts, Derek Berge, Lindsay Berge, and a sister, Carol Holzwart of Cleveland.
James was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law June (Fred)
Pagelow, and a brother-in-law George Holzwart.
Family and friends may gather at First United Lutheran Church, 2401 Kohler
Memorial Drive, Sheboygan on Friday, September 17, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. until
the time of service at 12 noon. Pastor Todd Smith will officiate with Tina
Kieckhafer assisting.
Masks will be required for the visitation and funeral.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jim’s name can be made to First United Lutheran
Church, The Humane Society of Sheboygan County, The Salvation Army, or any
charity of your choice.
