116 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were logged by the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health since their last semi-weekly report was issued on Monday, raising the total count to 14,828. 427 of those are active, 8 more than on Wednesday, and the most since 435 were active on February 2nd. Total hospitalizations in Sheboygan County rose by 6 over the last three days, with 732 having been treated in all. The 19 currently hospitalized are the highest number since 21 were being treated on January 4th, and that’s a one-day increase of 4 since Wednesday.
Sheboygan County is currently experiencing a “very high” activity level. A burden of 392.1 cases per 100,000 persons was calculated by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, and there was no significant change in trajectory over the past week.
One key measurement of the level of the SARS-CoV-2 virus is made at wastewater treatment plants, and data from the Sheboygan Waste Water Treatment Facility now indicates a level of gene copies equal to that of mid-December of last year when the pandemic was in full force, last measured on August 21st at 213.6 million gene copies per person per day. The level at the Plymouth Utilities facility was 131.1 million gene copies per person. Trends at both sites were showing little significant change over the previous week.
14 active facility-wide investigations are now underway in Sheboygan County, nearly triple the number of a week ago. 6 are at long-term care facilities, 6 are non-healthcare work locations, and there are 1 each at educational facilities and “other” settings. The three nursing homes identified are Morningside Health Services, Rocky Knoll and Sheboygan Health Services.
Vaccinations continue increasing in Sheboygan County, with 53.5% of residents having received at least one dose. That’s 61,688 persons, 203 more than on Wednesday. 50.6% of county residents are fully vaccinated, numbering 58,338 in all, an increase of 174 since Wednesday.
