After rising for one day on Thursday, the number of active COVID-19 cases in Sheboygan County resumed the decline seen since early January. With 23 new positive test returns out of a total of 94, a 24% positive return rate, the 34 recoveries since Thursday put the active case count at 218, one less than recorded on Wednesday. No net change in hospitalizations was seen, with 5 beds occupied with COVID-19 patients in Sheboygan County. 12,644 county residents have experienced COVID-19 so far, and 125 did not survive.
As of Friday morning, 9,891 doses of vaccine have been administered in Sheboygan County, amounting to 8.6% of our residents. According to the vaccine dashboard provided by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, 25.4%, over one-quarter, were those 65 or older. Although providers have a combined capacity to administer 6,000 doses per week in Sheboygan County, supplies have not been sufficient, and the largest number of weekly doses on record was last week, with 3,342 administered. Data for this week is incomplete.
The Wisconsin DHS reported 938 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, raising the total to 554,048 so far. 11 more deaths pushed that toll to 6,151. 55 more persons entered hospitals, while 83 others either passed away or were discharged, lowering the patient population to 461, 120 of those in ICU beds.
