The active case count of COVID-19 in Sheboygan County has dropped to a level last seen at the end of September last year. On that day, 185 cases were recorded; today the count was 219, the fewest since that date. Only 6 of the 103 tests returned since Tuesday were positive, and 29 persons recovered. Hospitalizations here were stable at 3. In all, 12,580 Sheboygan County residents have battled the disease, and 125 have lost their fight.
Efforts to fight the pandemic through vaccinations continue, and as of this Wednesday morning, 12,000 shots have been administered in Sheboygan County. Phase 1A vaccinations are now underway, covering frontline health care personnel, residents and staff in skilled nursing and long-term care facilities, police and fire personnel, correctional staff, and adults ages 65 and older. The next phase of eligibility – 1B – is tentatively set by the State of Wisconsin to begin on March 1st.
14% of the 5,813 tests received at the Wisconsin DHS since Tuesday were positive for COVID-19, adding 821 cases to the running total that’s now at 551,871. 35 more deaths were attributed to the coronavirus, pushing the state toll to 6,129. 69 more persons were admitted to hospitals for treatment of their disease. After accounting for deaths and discharges, Wisconsin’s COVID patient population was down by 36 to 489, 127 of those in ICU beds. Another 48 patients were awaiting their test results, and 424 persons in all are on ventilators.
