
Joel Zimmermann, age 84, of the Town of Mitchell, passed away on December 20 th , 2020 at his home.
He was born on July 5, 1936 in Milwaukee, WI, a son of the late Leila Zimmermann. Joel graduated from
Plymouth High School in 1954.
He served in the United States Navy Reserves. On June 16, 1956, he married Gail Wightman at St. John
the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth.
Joel worked for Kohler Company for 13 years and was the youngest to become a foreman in the pottery
division. From 1968-1992 Joel owned and operated Zimmermann’s Meat Market in Cascade. In 1978, he
started Zimmermann Mail Service, which he owned and operated until his retirement in 2004.
He enjoyed fishing, traveling to Colorado and spending time with his family. Joel was a member of St.
John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth.
Survivors include his loving wife, Gail; five children, Steven Zimmermann, Rita Crane (Dennis Schuster),
Michael Zimmermann, Peter (Margaret) Zimmermann, Lisa (Virginia) Henderson; six grandchildren,
Robert (April) Crane, Brian Zimmermann, Chris Jones, Tony (Amanda) Zimmermann, Alaina (Dillon)
Zimmermann, and Nigel Henderson; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers,
Nic and Ray Zimmermann; one sister, Karen Driscoll; one brother-in-law, Gary (Eileen) Wightman; and
two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Inskeep and Jackie Garbe.
He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother and infant brother, Jules Zimmermann.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday (December 28 th ) at 12:30 PM at St. John the Baptist
Catholic Church in Plymouth. Father Philip Reifenberg, Pastor of the Church, will officiate. Visitation will
take place on Monday (Dec. 28 th ) at the CHURCH from 11:00 AM until time of Mass. Please wear a mask
and practice proper social distancing.
Burial will be in the Winooski Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Joel’s name.
