Those experiencing financial strains can get help on energy bills through the Wisconsin Energy Assistance Program. State officials expect about 170,000 households to receive assistance this heating season. The average heating benefit is projected at $441, while the average electric benefit is expected to be $257.
Eligibility is based on household income, size and energy costs. The program pays benefits directly to utilities and fuel suppliers and may also provide emergency furnace repairs, water heater replacements and home weatherization services for qualifying households.
