Fond du Lac County residents are the latest targets of scammers impersonating law enforcement.
The Sheriff’s Office said residents are being contacted by an individual claiming to be Captain Chris Randall of the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office. The target is told that an urgent legal matter must be addressed under threat of an arrest warrant. Scammers then provide a fraudulent phone number for victims to contact and provide a form of payment to avoid arrest.
The Sheriff’s Office reiterated that they will never request payment via the telephone, and they urge anyone who’s been contacted by the scammer to block the number, and then contact the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency line at 920-929-3390.
