Supplies of blood and platelets remain strained according to the American Red Cross, which is working to make up for high summer demand coupled with low donor turnout. The agency said that response to the critical shortage over the past few months has helped recover from levels that had dropped to single-day supplies at times, but the current supply is considered vulnerable. People are being asked to make appointments now to ensure supplies continue to make products available when needed, especially when disasters such as the Fox Valley tornado raise demand and interrupt local donations.
As an incentive, the Red Cross has partnered with Hello Kitty and Friends to offer an exclusive Red Cross & Hello Kitty plush mascot clip and surprise sticker pack while supplies last. You’ll find more information and can sign up to donate at RedCrossBlood.org.
