Even though the City of Sheboygan says that no data center projects are planned “at this time”, it will be hosting an educational speaker series focused on the controversial centers that are now being constructed in numbers across the country.
The Speaker Series will focus on the impacts of data centers. The Common Council requested the series to establish a foundational understanding of the industry and identify critical considerations for the community and the Council as it moves forward and crafts future zooming regulations. The series will take place each Wednesday night in September from 6-8pm at Uptown Social on North 8th Street.
The speaker on September 9th is Becky Valcq, President of Wisconsin Energy Company & VP of Energy Delivery, Alliant Energy
On September 16th, Dr. Ben Green, Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan, Faculty Associate at Harvard University and co-author of “What Happens When Data Centers Come to Town?” will be give a 60-minute presentation, and time constraints may prevent a Q&A to follow.
On September 23, the Policy Coordinator for Energy Systems at the Great Plains Institute, Bridget Williams, will speak of its support of zero-carbon energy futures through the MISO Cities and Communities Coalition, NextGen Highways, and other public projects.
On September 30th, the speaker is Greg Johnson, Senior Municipal Advisor with Ehlers, an industry leading municipal advisory firm helping local governments provide generational benefits to the communities they serve.
